It was a beautiful day for some CCCX Road Racing action.  The venue was the normal course in Ft Ord in Marina, CA.  We were treated to a full days worth of racing with 150+ racers out in different categories.  We viewed some good breakaways and some good spring finishes to the different categories of racers.

I ended up photographing the race from the last two turns and straights.  It gave me a chance to get both the start/finishes of the races, as well as the podium photos.  The weather was good, as we had some nice fog for most of the day to keep things a little cool, and (at least for me) the breeze and wind felt great.  I’m sure it didn’t feel too good for the guys/gals who were racing since I believe that breeze became a headwind on the climb!

Race winners were given California Giant Strawberries (and according to my wife, they are GOOOOOOOD!)  Also on hand was First One Scene EMS to take care of all the wounded riders from crashes or anyone else in need of medical attention.  Luckily they got to hang out in their tent all day and relax, as we didn’t have any crashes during the race.

I also will be looking forward to racing against the Cat 5 guys on the 3rd race in Oct.  It’ll be my first road race, so take it easy on me!

Fall CCCX Road Race #1

San Jose Sports Photographer Scott Mosher was out again at the series finale for the CCCX XC Series at Ft Ord on 6/27.  The temperatures started off nice & in the mid 50s, but it ended up getting pretty toasty out there.  Luckily there wasn’t any big crashes  during the day, though I was starting to wonder once LifeFlight flew overhead a couple times during one of the races.

CCCX XC #7

It was a good day for some California sports photography.  Sunday was supposed to be in the 70s and sunny so I planned on packing the sunscreen, shorts, and plenty of water.  Turns out my hunch to wear pants (also great poison oak protection) and grab my jacket & a long sleeve undershirt (also great poison oak protection) saved my bacon today.  Turns out the weather decided to be cold, and at times windy & a little drizzly.

I decided to go try to shoot in completely different shooting locations for this race as I was trying to change it up a little bit from what I normally get.  I tried to get a wide variety of images for everyone, including climbing, descending, panning, and anything else I could think of.  I’m hoping at least a few people will find an image of them that is different from what they’ve seen so far.

Sunday was a perfect day for racing.  Not a lot of wind, nice sun, and perfect temperature.

It was a pretty good today.  It started off a little bad for me, as once I got there I realized I didn’t have any sunscreen.  I should be easy to find at the MTB race on Sunday if you’re there.  Just look for the weird reddish glow walking around the course, it’ll be me.  It looks like there was only one crash today, which is good.  It was good meeting a few new people today, hopefully I was able to get a photo of you or the person you were there to cheer for!

Spring CCCX Road Race #2

I had a really fun time today.  I got a chance to photograph some good racing and got to ride my bike around.  I was the guy either driving on the course in the green jeep, or I was riding the silver Specialized MTB around taking photos.  Weather was good, though once that wind picked up it started getting chilly.  That was when I really enjoyed the warm air from my car

It was a pretty good day out at Toro Park on Sunday.  There were a couple crashes, but from what I could tell no big injuries.  We like it when the Paramedics are bored during race day.

It was interesting weather out there Sunday.  We had some nice fog/cold weather in the morning, in the afternoon things heated up, then in the afternoon the wind started kicking in bringing the cold with it.  It was a fun day though out there at Manzanita Park in Prunedale.  It looked like everyone had fun.  Here are a few of my favorites from the race, while images to purchase & the galleries can all be found here.  I am in currently processing the photos (Sunday night) and I’ll be starting the upload process Monday morning.

It was a nice day out there in Salinas.  With all the rain we got in San Jose I was trying to figure out whether to bring rain gear or shorts.  I ended up preparing for being in Poison Oak instead.  Hopefully I didn’t get any while I was out there.

Here is the link to the entire gallery, while here are a few samples of some of my favorite images from the day.  I ended up shooting roughly the entire day using the new Nikon D300 that I just picked up paired with my trusty 70-200 VR lens.

Today was the fun easy day.  I spent about 8-9 hours on Saturday photographing youth soccer, and so being able to photograph some cycling meant a little time to relax while waiting for riders and I chance to shoot something else that I love.  The galleries are being uploaded tonight, and I’ll have them all up & displaying sometime Monday, I’m hoping for in the morning or early afternoon.  Here is the link to view the galleries & to purchase photos.
