UP #844 in Oakland, CA

I received an email a week or two ago mentioning that the Union Pacific steam engine #844 was going to be in town this weekend/week.  My original plan was to head up to Roseville on Saturday but my wife & I decided just to head to Davis to see my sister & her family.  So plan number two was to see the train as it was sitting at the UP yard at the Port of Oakland.  So I headed up in the morning and spent about an hour and a half photographing the train.  I’m told that my great grandfather was a fireman on a steam engine out of a little town called Baker, Oregon.  So getting excited about trains (especially steam engines) runs in my family.

Nice!! Glad you were able to make it over to see it! I love the people standing next to it…it really puts into perspective how big it is!!!

Thank for taking such great pictures of the 844. The 844 is my favorite engine of all. It is in my Lionel train book. I am 5 and I wish I was there too. From Hunter and my sister Madison
